Welcome to Deep Calls to Deep

There are moments in life when the surface of things simply isn’t enough. We sense a deeper current—something ancient, something tender, something alive—moving beneath the noise of our days. Deep Calls to Deep was born from that current. It is both a personal offering and a community invitation: a place where the wisdom of nature, the slow work of healing, and the art of connection meet.

For more than three decades, I’ve walked alongside people in moments of transformation—at hospital bedsides, under starlit skies, in sanctuaries and city council meetings, in forest clearings, at kitchen tables, and inside communities wrestling with their own complexity. My life has unfolded at the intersection of pastoral presence, poetic imagination, civic ritual, and community-building. These threads, gathered over many years, now come together here.

Deep Calls to Deep is where the threads of my life have found a form.

Why This Matters

We live in a time when many of us feel stretched thin, unseen, hurried, or quietly undone by the pace of things. Some of us carry unspoken grief. Some of us hold stress like a secret stone in the pocket. Some of us—like the domestic violence workers I’ve helped advocate for, or the community leaders preparing for the Scarboro 85 monument season—need real practices for releasing what we absorb so that we can keep showing up whole.

I’ve learned this truth again and again:When we slow down enough to listen, the world listens back. I know because I know what burn-out feels like -- what frustration feeels like. And I know from personal experience that when I am not listening to the earth, the sky, my body, or my Creator what I absorb can spill out negatively on others. This is a practice that began, and continues to develop me. I beleive it works because I have lived it. Learning to listen to nature's rhythms helps us hear others in a more heaftfelt way. And it helps us show up better as listeners, ask better questions, and practice physical and mental health with clarity.

Forest therapy walks, “one shared sky” stargazing rituals, creative invitations, and gentle community practices offer us not only restoration but re-connection—to ourselves, to one another, and to the places that hold us. The land becomes a companion. The sky becomes a teacher. And our lives, even in their uncertainty, begin to feel more spacious.

This work matters because we are not meant to navigate the deep places alone.

The Invitation

Deep Calls to Deep offers guided forest therapy walks, sky gazing as civic ritual gatherings, and creativity experiences that help us step into a quieter, wiser pace—one rooted in breath, nature, and belonging. If you’ve ever joined one of my poetry readings, community dinners, or shows at the Grove Theater, you already know:I believe in the power of gentle structure to open surprising doors.I believe ordinary people become extraordinary when given space to breathe.I believe that healing often starts with simply noticing what has always been there.

And I believe that our communities grow stronger when we learn to listen—really listen—to ourselves, to our neighbors, and to the wider creation we share.

A Path of Community Connection

Deep Calls to Deep is not only about individual well-being. It is also about how personal grounding and awakening to wonder ripples outward.

A leader who feels held by the forest can show up differently for their city. A caregiver who has been given space to exhale can meet others with renewed compassion.A neighborhood that gathers under a shared sky becomes, even briefly, a small constellation of trust.

These practices strengthen not just the self, but the ecosystem of relationships around us.This is the heart of my work across the years—whether designing civic rituals for hundreds, blessing a couple on their wedding day, or guiding someone through a forest as they wait for biopsy results they are afraid to name.

Growth becomes possible when we are met with gentleness.Community becomes possible when we choose presence over performance. And new futures become possible when we return, again and again, to the deep places within us.

Where We Go From Here

This blog will be a home for reflections on nature, community, belonging, creativity, civic ritual, and the small practices that help us cultivate resilience and wonder. I’ll share stories from the field, from the forest, from the stars, and from the quiet interior spaces where meaning often begins.

Whether you come seeking rest, renewal, inspiration, or simply a place to breathe—welcome. There is room for you here. And the deep, patient world is already speaking.

Together, let’s listen.
